Description
1964 Vox JMI AC10, single speaker combo in exceptional, barely used condition.
This amp is in astonishing condition, having been barely used in the past 60 years.
It is virtually as new. It retains the full complement of Mullard valves, the original grey hammer finish Elac 10″ alnico speaker, in perfect condition, the original egg footswitch, perfect grille cloth, Vox badge, basketweave vynide, etc.
Inside, the hand-wired circuit board is completely intact, with Mullard mustard caps and original Parmeko transformers.
An extra EF86 valve has been added to the circuit early in the amplifier’s life – see photos of the circuit board.
The AC10 was introduced in 1959, initially as a single 10″ speaker which was later joined by a twin speaker version.
The AC-10 had a Vibrato (actually tremolo) and a Normal channel, each with two inputs and a volume control. A single tone “cut” control rolled off the treble response in both channels.
Jennings ceased production of the original, single-speaker version of the AC-10 in 1965 but the AC-10 Twin continued to be produced until 1967.
The amp sounds fabulous: clean and sparkly with single coils up to about halfway on the Vib channel, which soon becomes more and more saturated as you wind up the volume. This overdrive happens earlier with humbuckers, but these old Vox circuits have a wonderful way of making high-output humbuckers sound bright and crystalline, almost like single coils.
The Normal channel has a slightly fuller tone, which can be thickened out even more with the Cut control. The distortion on this channel is even more pronounced – perhaps due to the extra EF86 in the circuit.

The Vibrato (actually tremolo) effect works perfectly and sounds stunning – subtle and pulsating – when the footswitch is engaged.
This is a unique opportunity to obtain a rare single-speaker AC10 – a highly sought-after amp from 1964 – in exceptional condition.
